The People's Army, the melting pot, Hebrew labor and the flowering of the wilderness are just some of the myths in Israeli society that we grew up with, which are at the core of the "Myth Machine" - a new documentary series, which airs today (Wednesday) in preparation for 75 years of independence, and which tells the story of the State of Israel through the myths that shaped her.

The series, which will be broadcast starting in the evening on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 21:15 on Kaan 11 and Kaan BOX, was created by the director Uri Rosenvaks ("Kingdoms of the Lower", "Lod between Despair and Hope", "Leibowitz - Faith, Earth, Adam"), and in it he examined The Israeli collective consciousness through the analysis and presentation of myths from the past and the present, and examining them regarding the tension that exists around them between imagination and reality.
"The whole idea was born out of a call that the corporation issued, as part of the preparations for the 75th year, which has now received interesting twists," laughs Rosenwax, "but four years ago we set out. They wanted ideas to tell the country's story, and I was looking for ways not to be a prisoner of The chronology, which is respected in its place, is laid out, and there is didactic historical television, but I wanted to find lines of latitude through which I could tell history in an alternative way, which would allow me space to reflect, and challenge the viewer more than telling him what happened then."

"In the beginning, I made a horizontal division for all kinds of ideas, security, work, citizenship, and then we realized that the preoccupation is with myths. We live in a very ideological society, which was founded on the basis of an ideological idea, and there is a lot of room for myths in it."
Was there any myth that surprised you when you discovered it?
"In the chapter of the Hebrew work, on the question of what is the left and what is the right in the Israeli economy, you see that from the beginning of the 80s, when Peres was prime minister, all the politicians more or less behave the same to this day.
Almost all of them have a neoliberal view that has created large gaps in society, and regardless of whether they are on the right or the left, they have created an economically polarized society.
This surprised me, because in the end the Histadrut was dismantled by a leftist, Haim Ramon.
The truth is that in every chapter there is something that surprised me.
It is important to emphasize that we did not set out to defy or slaughter myths, but to try to produce something deep, complex, that people will think about and talk about."
The series comes up at an interesting time: there is a threat of closure hanging over the corporation and Israeli society is not in a simple situation at all.
"Whoever sees the four episodes will get many answers to the question of why we have reached this situation. Everyone tells me 'what timing' regarding the corporation. Precisely in such a difficult period that we are in, the Israeli public has proven, from the left and the right, that it does not understand what is wanted from it. This happened here A miracle, they established a magnificent public broadcast, which by the way was a decision of the Likud government, and it has added value compared to all the yellow on television. The content is accessed through a magnificent digital service, and people, out of ignorance and arrogance, want to destroy something excellent."
