(ANSA) - ROME, MARCH 16 - After 20 days of administrative detention ordered by the Italian authorities, the Geo Barents left the port of Augusta today for a new search and rescue mission in the central Mediterranean.
Doctors Without Borders, which manages the ship, defines the stop as "illegitimate detention" and in the meantime, he complains, "countless lives have been lost".
The provision had been prepared on the basis of the decree law of 3 January, which was later converted into law.
The ship was accused of not having activated the Voyage date recorder - the 'black box' - as requested by the Coast Guard after the last rescue operation carried out.
