It doesn't matter whether it's a birthday, a family celebration or just at the weekend: there's simply nothing like a homemade cake.

If the cake recipes also get by with just a few ingredients and a short preparation time, all the better.

The classic pie called Philadelphia pie, also known as cream cheese pie, belongs to this category and doesn't even need an oven.

For the basic recipe you will need these ingredients:

  • For the base:

finely crumble the ladyfingers in a food processor or with your hands.

Melt the butter and mix well with the ladyfingers.

Place in a springform pan (ø 26 cm) lined with baking paper and press down firmly.

  • For the cream cheese cream:

Beat the cream cheese, yoghurt and lemon juice with the beaters of a hand mixer or in a food processor for about 5 minutes.

This way the cake will be nice and creamy afterwards.

  • Soak the gelatine in cold water for 10 minutes and then squeeze it out well.

  • Heat gelatin and sugar in a small saucepan, stirring, until dissolved.

Gradually stir the cream cheese into the gelatine so that no lumps form.

  • Pour the cream into the springform pan and chill the cake for at least 3 hours or overnight.

  • Remove from the springform pan and decorate as you like.

It's so easy to modify the classic cake:

You can easily adapt the basic recipe to your taste by letting your creativity run free with the decoration.

Fresh fruit and berries in particular, but nuts and chocolate are also good toppings.

But the cream cheese itself can also be modified with melted chocolate, chocolate chips, marshmallows or jelly powder.

The latter then serves in part as a gelatine substitute.

Alternatively, you can try a savory version: simply replace the ladyfingers in the base with salty crackers, pretzels or crispbread.

You can refine the cream cheese cream with various herbs and fried bacon cubes or smoked salmon.

The amount of sugar should then be reduced.

In order for your cake to be distributed as fairly as possible among all your guests, an innovative cutting technique is required.

And you don't even need a knife for that.
