'The proposal on the Italian language? It's not from the government' (ANSA)

"It is a law proposal from a parliamentarian, not from the government, and the bills must be approved by the House and the Senate, but the defense of the Italian language has nothing to do with Mussolini. Fascism ended in '45, it's past stuff that doesn't interest us and doesn't concern us, Mussolini has done more damage than useful things".

This was stated by Foreign Minister

Antonio Tajani

in response to a question to the foreign press on the Rampelli bill which, according to the journalist, "has a Mussolini flavour".

"I have always defended the Italian language, it is the mother tongue, Dante Alighieri is the poet of Italian", he added.

"I don't know if the wall is a solution, it depends on Greece, but it's not the solution because then the walls are climbed over, the problem is the European strategy that builds a wall of another type, it's not a matter of public order but of strategy - so Tajani responding to a Greek journalist's question on the usefulness of erecting walls to block migratory flows. Progress has been made in the EU but some countries cannot be forced to act alone".
