(ANSA) - ROME, 06 APR - Acts of intimidation towards journalists are decreasing: in 2022 there were 111 compared to 232 in 2021, with a decrease of 52%.
And the trend continued in the first two months of 2023: 14 deeds reported compared to the 28 referring to the same period of 2022. The data were analyzed during a meeting at the Viminale - chaired by the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi - of the Coordination Center for the monitoring, analysis and permanent exchange of information on the phenomenon of acts of intimidation towards journalists.
"Even in the face of a decrease in cases - said Piantedosi - the attention of the institutions remains high for the defense of the activity of journalists, for protecting the fundamental function performed by the world of information. This is why the Viminale is fully committed to strengthening the actions on the front of the prevention and repression of any threat or intimidation suffered by journalists".
The meeting was attended by the undersecretary Nicola Molteni, the head of the cabinet Maria Teresa Alwaysviva, the head of the police-general director of public safety Lamberto Giannini, the secretary councilor of the National Council of the Order of Journalists Paola Spadari and the president of the Italian national press federation Vittorio Di Trapani.
