Five days after the crime of the bus driver
Daniel Barrientos
(65) in La Matanza, and after the scandal over the violent and excessive operation to arrest two drivers who attacked the Minister of Security, Sergio Berni, in the protests,
the
Immediate Operations Tactical Unit (UTOI), which led the operations, now controls passengers with
searches, searches of weapons and requests for documents
.
The troops dressed in camouflage clothing stop the units on Route 3 at Virrey del Pino and force the passengers to get off.
They make them place their hands against the collective, they feel their weapons, they confiscate their backpacks
and ask them for documents, in an image that is more than controversial in order to show action around the fight against insecurity in the Province of Buenos Aires.
Far from generating anger, the unusual operation was celebrated by many passengers who even justified the search.
"I live at kilometer 45, there is no Police, they robbed me when I got off the bus, I would have to make more police," said a passenger forced to get off in dialogue with the
TN
channel .
Another passenger celebrated the measure: "It's good, it's necessary, they should be more often. They always need to do it, not forget about it."
Beyond the fact that some passengers agree, the type of control generates controversy.
"It is not constitutional because it is unreasonable. It is an operation that although its purpose is to preserve security, it is a constitutionally possible objective, the means that are being used are not the most suitable. They are unreasonably limiting the scope of privacy and people's privacy," said constitutional lawyer Andrés Gil Domínguez.
"This type of limitation has to be argued and cannot be arbitrary. There are other means to try to achieve the same objective that are much more suitable and less restrictive of people's rights, beyond the fact that many willingly accept it," completed the lawyer who remarked that passengers are treated as "possible suspects."
