Japan, Italian oil represents 40% of imports

(HANDLE) Japan's imports of extra virgin olive oil from Italy represent 40% of the total value imported from the Rising Sun, for a value of 88 million euros and with volumes, according to calculations on Japanese Customs data, equal to 16 thousand tons in 2022. The total import value of extra virgin olive oil in Japan amounted to 220 million euros in 2022 (+ 8% from 2020) and with volumes equal to 47 thous


Japan's imports of extra virgin olive oil from Italy represent 40% of the total value imported from the Rising Sun, for a value of 88 million euros and with volumes, according to calculations on Japanese Customs data, equal to 16 thousand tons in 2022. The total import value of extra virgin olive oil in Japan amounted to 220 million euros in 2022 (+ 8% from 2020) and with volumes equal to 47 thousand tons.



This was announced by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Japan (Icci) which on April 7 in Tokyo announced the winners of the Japan Olive Oil Prize (Joop), competition-.

communicates a note- considered "as one of the most rigorous and important competitions in the world, which for 11 years has pursued the objective of promoting excellent oil production in Japan and Asia".



538 labels from 23 countries took part in this edition.

The finalist oils were subjected to blind tasting analysis by the jury of 11 certified international judges, supervised by three panel leaders: Konstantinos Liris (Greece), Antonio G. Lauro (Italy), Miciyo Yamada (Japan).

Also awarded the Joop Design Award.

which rewards producers who have distinguished themselves in communicating the identity of their product, through the logo, labeling and design of the bottle.

The selection proclaimed the winners in the Igp, Dop, Organic, Monocultivar, Blend and Flavored categories.

Depending on the score obtained, the oils were awarded Best in Class, Gold and Silver awards.

Italy the Best of Italy award was assigned to Cenzino Ogliarola Del Bradano - Azienda Agricola Vincenzo Marvulli (Matera).

The Best of Flavored went to Terraliva Fusion - Terraliva (Italy- Syracuse), the Best of Polyphenols Fruity Intense went to the Oleificio Fam Sas (Italy- Avellino).
