MILAN - Leandro Erlich with his world of illusions arrives in Europe for the first time, from 22 April to 4 October with a major monograph at the Palazzo Reale in Milan.

As many as 18 works will be exhibited in an exhibition in which the Argentine artist will bring some of his iconic pieces capable of directly involving the public in a game of unsettling visions, because nothing is ever as it seems and because nothing will ever be as we had assumed.

Experiences bordering on the paradox that have conquered over 600,000 visitors in Tokyo and 300,000 in Buenos Aires.

''My work functions as a narrative experience unfolding in the public arena.

I construct visual stories from everyday life that evoke a set of ordinary circumstances, rooted in reality and shared experience, but which don't work as expected.

I like - explains Erlich - to develop projects that push the audience beyond the conceptual threshold and I like working with a variety of media and modes of expression.

My work includes installations, objects, sculptures, videos and even painting.

I create structures that trigger images and ideas that, in turn, point towards new realities.

I like to think of these pieces as relational devices that inspire interaction and play among viewers.

I mean art as a means to cultivate new approaches to understanding the physical, mental, political, symbolic world''.

Born in Buenos Aires in 1973, Erlich creates large installations and videos with which the public relates, interacts and confronts.

Undoubtedly central is the playful spirit of his work in which houses uprooted and left dangling hanging from a crane, lifts that lead nowhere, escalators tangled as if they were threads of a ball of wool, unsettling and surreal sculptures, videos that subvert normality and much more.

In Milan, in the halls of the Palazzo Reale, through 18 works and installations - some also on loan from the Galleria Continua in Milan, the artist's representative in Italy - a large audience is given the opportunity to get to know the entire artistic excursus of Erlich.

In the last decade, Leandro Erlich has decided to devote himself intensely to public art, expanding his practice beyond simulation in museums to direct interventions in everyday life and reality.

Whether suspending a house on the streets of Karlsruhe in Germany, removing the top of the Obelisk in Buenos Aires or causing a traffic jam in Miami Beach, his art has become a ritual meeting between the public and a point critically and irreverently.

From Buenos Aires to New York, from São Paulo to Miami and Tokyo, Erlich can look back on numerous successes and awards.

The exhibition, promoted by the Comune di Milano-Cultura, is produced and organized by Palazzo Reale and Arthemisia and is curated by Francesco Stocchi.

Sponsors of the exhibition are Generali Valore Cultura, mobility partner Frecciarossa Treno Ufficiale, media partner Urban Vision and it is recommended by Sky Arte.

The catalog is published by Toluca.
