 The exhibition 'Retrospective.

Maximum New Year'.

The exhibition, conceived by the artist who died last year, brings together over 50 photographs taken during his life, mixing the best images of the ANSA photojournalist with those taken in his private life.

The project, carried out with the cultural patronage of the Municipality of Positano, aims to pay homage to the great passion that linked Massimo to photography and to make his great work known to the public.

In the background the indissoluble bond with the camera, timeless travel companion, and Positano, the city of adoption where he lived until his last day.

A long journey summed up in this exhibition that tells the story and customs of a

Approaching photography at the end of the 1960s, with his snapshots Massimo Nuovo narrated half a century of Italy and its changes, putting the person at the center of the lens: the violence of the years of lead, the personalities of the Christian Democrats and of the Communist Party, the tragedies that have devastated the country, without forgetting the presidents of the Republic and the popes who have followed one another.

Numerous missions abroad in which he participated as an envoy.

In addition to the major events of society, he dedicated himself to the stories of people, recounting the vices and virtues of a changing country.

Among the shots that have left their mark is the corpse floating in the waters of Ustica, after the tragic massacre of 1980.

"Always on site at the right time, always in the front row to tell day after day the story of the years of lead, of the massacres, of the historic compromise, of politicians and presidents", recalls Luigi Contu, Director of the ANSA Agency, where Massimo New Year has been working for over thirty years.

"There is the history of our country in the images taken: with its thousand contradictions. In those years Massimo witnessed all this without ever neglecting his great love for art which emerges with strength and melancholy in the shots dedicated to the great protagonists of cinema and television: Mastroianni, De Filippo, Gassman, Corrado, Raffaella Carrà, Morandi, Modugno, Melato, Zanicchi and many others.A life as a fighter of journalism but also as an artist of great sensitivity,

"Being able to remember Massimo in a few lines is completely reductive - commented Giuseppe Guida, Mayor of Positano - He described Positano under various facets, embracing every single event. His constant commitment and dedication to the world of photography, his unchanging love to the whole country. Thank you Massimo for everything you created, because every shot of yours represented for us a true creation of art".

"We are honored this year to be able to inaugurate the artistic-cultural review "Positano… in Mostra" with a collection of shots by Massimo Nuovo Nuovo who undoubtedly represented a protagonist of photographic art for Positano", underlined Giuseppe Vespoli, Councilor of the Municipality of Positano, delegate for Tourism, Events and Culture.

"We therefore welcome this collection of images with particular enthusiasm and strong emotion, each of which embodies the particular characteristic of Massimo's punctual and meticulous eye who, for each single shot, reserved the most total professional attention. A Friend, a person esteemed, a permanent memory for all our community".

The exhibition will be accompanied by the publication of the book RETROSPECTIVA.

Massimo New Year, edited by NERO Editions (
