Migrants: Frontex, +300% arrivals in the central Mediterranean

(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, APRIL 12 - The detections of migrants in the central Mediterranean quadrupled to almost 28 thousand (+305%) in the first three months of 2023, compared to the same period last year.

Frontex reports it.

In the month of March alone, the number grew nine times compared to last year, reaching 13,000.

    In general, the European Agency detected 54,000 irregular crossings at EU borders, 26% compared to the same period last year, with 22,500 irregular arrivals recorded in March alone (60% more).
