The State Police celebrates the 171st anniversary of its foundation, an appointment that this year too will have a national celebration today 12 April in the evocative setting of the Pincio Terrace in Rome and in the territorial ceremonies organized by the Police Headquarters.
The President of the Republic,
Sergio Mattarella, will grant the gold medal for civil valor to the Flag of the State Police this year for the activities carried out by the staff of the Mobile Departments.

On April 12, the Police particularly remembers all those policemen who lost their lives in the exercise of duty: at 9.00 a wreath will be laid by the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi and the Chief of Police, Lamberto Giannini, in the Shrine of the Fallen, at the Higher School of Police.
A sacrifice to which the prefect Giannini wanted to pay further homage by meeting privately with the families of the victims on the evening of 11 April

At 11, in the presence of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the solemn ceremony at the Pincio will begin, during which the gold medals for civil valor and civil merit will be awarded - in memory - which represent the recognition of the

to the extreme sacrifice of six policemen who lost their lives.
Among these awards, the one to Domenico Zorzino who died on 3 March last in an attempt to save a person sunk in a canal in his car.
Promotions for extraordinary merit will then be awarded to policemen who have distinguished themselves for the exceptional results achieved in operational activities and in sporting competitions.

The 171st anniversary of the State Police is also an opportunity to remember two important birthdays: the 120th anniversary of the Scientific Police, a structure specialized in judicial police investigations with expertise in the field of biological, chemical, physical and fingerprint sciences, and the 100th years of Interpol, an international organization dedicated to police cooperation and the fight against international crime.
Interpol Secretary General Jürgen Stock will be present at the ceremony.
