Women in Italy continue to work less, earn less and have lower pensions, as well as fewer career opportunities.
The updated numbers of the disparity emerged from the seminar "The inconvenient figures of women's Italy" organized by the National Council of Actuaries with Noi Rete Donne, which saw the participation - among others - of the former Minister of Labor Elsa Fornero and the labor lawyer Giuliano Cazzola.
In particular, in 2021 the average gross monthly pension income of the approximately 3 million Italian pensioners was 1,321.14 euros, compared to 1,970.19 euros for the approximately 5 million pensioners.
The so-called "gender gap" is 32.9: this means that men receive 32.9% more than the average total in old-age pensions.
Behind the pension numbers are those of work: the female employment rate in Italy is 55%, more than 14 percentage points less than the European average and more than 18 points less than the most advanced economies in Europe.
