Calenda: 'We won't join the party because Renzi doesn't want it'

"We won't be able to make the party, because (Renzi, ed) doesn't want to do it".

This was reported in a note by Striscia la Notizia, whose envoy Enrico Lucci intercepted Carlo Calenda this morning and asked him for updates on the agreement with Matteo Renzi for the single party with Italia Viva.

"Why doesn't he want to do it?" Lucci urges him.

"Because he wants to keep the money and party of Italia Viva and you cannot give birth to three parties from two parties: it becomes ridiculous", replies Calenda.

Which he adds: "I don't know if there will be a new meeting today, but he doesn't come to the meetings. I haven't spoken to him, because he only speaks to Obama and Clinton"

"Matteo Renzi these vulgarities hide an exaggerated nervousness. You simply tried to give us a rip off and you were sent back to the sender. This time the 'stay calm' didn't work. Fine", writes the leader of Action on Twitter.

"Yesterday Italia viva - writes Calenda in a series of tweets - confirmed that it wanted to deliberate the dissolution (with effect from 2024) only after knowing the winner of the congress and that it wanted to continue doing politics through IV at least for the whole of '24. Ditto. on making concrete economic commitments against the new party. We, on the other hand, were ready to make an immediate commitment to dissolution and to turn over all the resources to campaign for the European elections".

"We have made a commitment with the voters - claims the leader of Azione - to create a single party, not an additional empty box. In the proposal presented there were (as in the first one) all the elements of democracy and contestability. After all, unlike of IV, Action has made all the municipal, provincial, regional, national congresses. Finally we demanded that there be a clause that resumed the European Parliament's ethical one on conflicts of interest. That's it. The rest are weapons of mass

distraction

" .

Italia Viva's reply

"Carlo, you are lying: the dissolution takes place whoever wins the congress but after the secretary is elected, not before. Italia Viva ends its political activity in October 2023".

This is the reply, entrusted to a series of tweets, with which

the official account of Italia Viva

, Matteo Renzi's party replies to Carlo Calenda who, a little earlier, again on twitter, had underlined how Iv (unlike Action) wants melt only in 2024.

"The resources of 2024 - reads a subsequent tweet from Italia Viva - will obviously go to the European ones and will be managed by the single party. But what is the point of arguing about money and not about ideals? In each party, whoever wins the congress manages the treasury , obviously, no?. Finally, we are in favor of the ethical clause. Where is the problem? You are making a controversy for no reason. Should we continue to discuss this necessary discussion on the merits of the choices to be made on social media or can we do it in meetings?".

And saying he wants to get to the point, the leader of Italia viva

Matteo Renzi

instead observes on Twitter that "in these hours there are inexplicable controversies within the Third Pole. I am very sorry also because I do not see a political reason for the break. I would avoid follow the controversies and the background".

"Yesterday - observes Renzi - Action presented a document, which is fine with us with small, absolutely acceptable changes. We have published them: the old parties dissolve with the election of the national secretary of the single party. If Calenda agrees, we sign.

If Calenda has changed her mind, we respect and acknowledge that.

As for Leopolda: anyone who knows that experience knows that it is a beautiful moment of political confrontation between different generations and histories.

It is a moment in which many people are approaching politics.

To say that the Leopolda can no longer be made makes no sense.

We've been doing it with thousands of volunteers since 2010, I don't see why we should stop doing it today at a time when politics must be defended against populism and sovereignty.

Mine is a final appeal: no more controversy, let's all get back to work together.

We are here, aware of the responsibility towards so many people who ask us to go back to dreaming, not to fly low to the ground".
