(ANSA) - ROME, 13 APR - Ken Loach (The Old Oak), Wes Anderson (Asteroid City), Wim Wenders (Perfect Days), Hirozaky Kore-Eda (Monster), Aki Kaurismaki (Fallen Leaves) are some of the cult directors in competition at the 76th Cannes Film Festival (16-27 May 2023), the selection of which was announced today in Paris by general delegate Thierry Fremaux with the new president Iris Knobloch.


   Six female directors in competition, a record, for the Cannes Palme d'Or which will be opened by a woman, the French Maiwenn with Jeanne duBarry.

In the competition, with a trio of Italians (Il soldell'avvenire by Nanni Moretti, La Chimera by Alice Rohrwacher, Rapito by Marco Bellocchio), with the Swede Ruben Ostulund as president of the jury after winning the Palma 2022 with Triangle of Sadness, among others Catherine Breillat (L'etè dernier),Todd Haynes (May December), Nury Bilge Ceylan (About drygrasses).

Among the out of competition Indiana Jones and the quadrant of destiny by James Mangold, Killer of Flowers Moon by Martin Scorsese, while in Special Screenings there is Occupied City by Steve McQueen and Kubi Takeshi Kitano in Cannes Premiere.
