(ANSA) - ROME, 14 APR - "Giletti has conducted 194 episodes of "Non è l'Arena" in 6 years where he was able to deal in total freedom with all the topics he wanted, including those relating to the mafia on which he made many episodes, with all the guests he wanted to invite. I wish him to find the same unconditional freedom in his next television or other experience".
The owner of La7, Urbano Cairo, told ANSA the day after the company's decision to suspend 'Non è l'Arena'.
Today the newspapers underlined that in the next episode the program would deal again with the mafia, after having hosted the handyman of the Graviano brothers, Salvatore Baiardo.
Giletti, answering a question from the
correspondent of Strisciala Notizia Valerio Staffelli who asked him if the removal was connected with the controversial broadcasting of the special on Matteo Messina Denaro, replied: "Italy is not yet ready to listen to certain truths, it is more convenient to keep them in the drawers".
Antonio Ingroia, a former magistrate, a frequent guest on the La7 program which was to be broadcast on Sunday to talk about the mafia, claimed in Un giorno da sheep that Giletti "had gone too far ahead of what his editor expected. I really think that if not had broadcasts on the mafia - he added - 'It's not the Arena' it would not have been closed".
