Iran
executed at least 582 people
last year , a
75 percent increase
from a year earlier, according to Norway-based
rights groups
Iran Human Rights
and France-based
Together Against the Death Penalty .
Cnn reports it
.
It was the highest number of executions in the Islamic republic
since 2015,
the vast majority, at least
544,
on people accused of murder and drug-related offences.
But the two NGOs say that the increase in executions is used by the regime to try to scare the demonstrators and prevent the dissent sparked by the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini last September.
