US Supreme Court Chief Justice Samuel Alito has extended the suspension of restrictions on the abortion pill, effectively guaranteeing full access to the drug.

The decision comes after both the pharmaceutical company that produces the pill and the Biden administration have turned to the highest American court.
The US Justice Department had asked the Supreme Court to intervene after a Texas judge blocked the sale of the widely used abortion pill mifepristone across the United States.
Then an appeals court had stopped the stop but severely limiting access to the drug.
Now the president of the highest US court has given the judges until Wednesday to pronounce definitively.
