The current king of Spain Felipe VI and the princesses Elena and Cristina would not be the only children of Juan Carlos I: this is supported by a forthcoming book, of which today the digital magazine El Confidencial publishes an excerpt, according to which the ex monarch would also have a "secret daughter", Alejandra, the result of an extra-marital relationship with an aristocrat.
The news is signed by journalists Juan María Olmo and David Fernández, reporters respectively of El Confidencial and Infobae and authors of the book 'King Corp. The untold empire of Juan Carlos I' (Libros del KO, out May 8) .
According to the two journalists, Alejandra was born after the three recognized children of Juan Carlos (whose mother is Queen Emerita Sofia, wife of the former monarch) and grew up in a family of Madrid's high society, before forming a family of her own .
She would not have been aware of the real identity of her biological father in her childhood.
Within the royal family, "everyone is aware" of these facts, according to Olmo and Fernández.
And the possible existence of an unrecognized daughter of Juan Carlos has actually been the subject of rumors in the circles of Madrid's aristocratic elite for years.
The authors of the news published today by El Confidencial claim that the existence of a secret daughter of the king emeritus has been confirmed to them by three sources: a former lover of Juan Carlos, an entrepreneur who has been a friend of the former monarch for decades and a former partner by Alejandra herself.
The Royal House's first reaction to the news was a "no comment", according to the Efe news agency.
In the past, rumors of alleged unrecognized sons of Juan Carlos have appeared several times in the Iberian media.
