With a mini job, the household budget can be improved.

However, in order not to have to worry about deductions, a certain hourly rate per month must not be exceeded.

Jobs that are remunerated with a maximum of 520 euros per month are called mini jobs.

For many people in Germany, this type of employment is an opportunity to earn a little extra money – and still be able to meet other obligations.

Mini jobs belong to the so-called marginal jobs.

With these, no taxes and duties are due for the wages.

Employees therefore earn "gross for net" - but only if the upper wage limit of 520 euros (until September 30, 2022: 450 euros) is observed.

Within twelve months, only three payments that go beyond this are allowed, otherwise the employee slips into employment subject to social security contributions.

But how many hours of work per month are allowed?

According to

the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB),

there is no limit to the weekly working hours for a 520-euro position.

But: The basis for the 520 euros is the current minimum wage of twelve euros per hour.

This means that mini-jobbers have been allowed to work a maximum of around 43 hours per month since October 2022 (€520 : €12 = 43.33 h).

It is obligatory for employers to document the beginning and end of the daily working hours of their employees as mini-jobbers.

According to

the DGB,

he can also transfer this task directly to the employees.

It is important here that the records are available no later than seven days after the respective working day and are kept for two years.

The DGB also recommends that the records be signed/countersigned by the employer once a week.

This way, both sides have proof in case of any disputes.

If the employer refuses, you should also record the working hours yourself.
