Even if age seems to have eroded the sharp edges of this one-piece man, who was born Hans-Georg Kern on January 23, 1938, during the Nazi period, in Deutschbaselitz in Saxony and who grew up in what became, after the war, East Germany.
A fierce reluctance to totalitarian systems and political lies has forged this reputedly whole character, as proven by his rough speech for his installation at the Academy of Fine Arts on October 27, 2021. Once arrived near Munich at the Porte de Baselitz, the visitor is struck by the decor, between Bluebeard's castle and a peaceful picture of Bavaria on the edge of one of those perfect lakes at the end of which the snow-capped Alps mark the horizon.
