The merry month of May has some changes in store.

From the Germany ticker to the Corona warning app, salary increases and price increases.

May has it ready.

Munich – The year 2023 is a year full of changes.

Some of these have already started, such as the electricity and gas price brakes that came into force as part of the third relief package.

But not only at the beginning of the year there were some changes.

Also in May there are some changes and events on the schedule:

The 49-euro ticket is valid from May 1st and has been available for purchase for several weeks.

The successor to the 9-euro ticket makes it possible to use all means of local public transport nationwide.

The Deutschlandticket is available as a subscription that can be canceled monthly via an app on a mobile phone or as a chip card.

With a trick you can also buy individual tickets.

The ticket is financed jointly by the federal and state governments.

For users of public transport, this means significant savings and flexibility when traveling by train.

Changes in May: The Corona-Warn-App is preparing for sleep mode

The functions of the Corona-Warn-App will also be restricted from May.

First, no new QR codes will be generated for events.

From June, the app will even be in sleep mode, reports the federal government.

The reason for this is the increased immunity of the population and a stable infection situation.

The need for contact tracing would no longer apply and the aim is to return to public life without corona measures.

In addition, the app was being used by fewer and fewer users; at the end of last year, only 37 percent of the population were using the Corona warning app.

The minimum wage for nursing professions will change in May – for the first time this year

Good news for the more than one million people in Germany who work in care, because the minimum wage for care professions is increasing.

This is the first of two wage increases, with the second set to follow in December, according to the Health Ministry.

This is how the salary should increase:

For nursing assistants

For professionals with at least one year of training

In May 2023 to 13.90 euros

In May to 14.90 euros

In December 2023 to 14.15 euros

From December to 15.25 euros

Changes in May: For whom there is more money and who has to pay more

Workers in the construction industry can also look forward to more money in May, because they will receive a one-time payment of 450 euros, reports the

German trade newspaper DHZ

.

Some employees in the varnishing and painting trades will also receive a one-off payment in May if they have not yet received one.

Their collective agreement provides for a tax and social security-free inflation compensation premium of 600 euros, which employers must transfer by the latest with the payroll in May.

Part-time employees and trainees also receive a proportion of the bonus.

But there is not more money for everyone in May, so some have to dig deeper into their pockets, for example Vodafone customers.

Vodafone is the first Internet provider in Germany to increase its prices for existing customers.

The increase should be around ten percent on average and, according to the portal

dslweb.de

, amount to around five euros a month, depending on the contract - that would be 60 euros a year.

In May there are not only changes, but also holidays - and a coronation

May 2023 is not only a month full of changes, but also a month full of events and holidays.

In Great Britain, this includes the coronation of Charles III.

Around 2000 guests are to be invited, including the German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Street festivals and events are also to take place on the following two days, for which people in the United Kingdom will even be given a one-time additional non-working holiday on Monday, May 8th.

However, there are also public holidays on the European mainland and even some of them in May.

These public holidays are in May 2023:

  • May 1st is Labor Day

  • May 18 is Ascension Day

  • May 29th is Whit Monday

In some federal states there is even another public holiday in May, in Brandenburg it is the only federal state that Pentecost Sunday on May 28th is also a public holiday.

The so-called merry month of May is still no guarantee for good weather.

For May, "the weather models give little hope of stable spring weather," said weather expert Dominik Jung.
