(ANSA) - ROME, 02 MAY - "I hope that the ECB does not continue with the decision to raise interest rates because at this moment it needs to help growth".
This was stated by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, on a visit today to the University for Foreigners of Perugia, answering the question on the possibility of new adjustments following the increase in inflation.
"We need to allow businesses and families - added the deputy prime minister - to access credit, it helps those who undertake to have the opportunity to give life to new initiatives. If the cost of money increases, we risk blocking all new initiatives".
"Given that the growth trend in our country is positive, the GDP is growing and given the latest government initiatives to combat inflation, I believe it would be right and appropriate not to continue to raise rates", Tajani said again, adding: "It being understood that The European Central Bank is free from political influence, but I can express my opinion".
