PS5 Pro: Console is in the works – developer models should go out this year

PS5 Pro in development:

Rumors about the PS5 Pro have been circulating since the original PS5 was released in 2020. As of this writing, Sony hasn't made any public statements about an upgrade to the console, although the Pro version now seems virtually confirmed be.

In a recent report, well-known industry insider Tom Henderson said he was 100 percent sure the PS5 Pro is in development.

In March, Henderson had previously reported on the console.

Who is Tom Henderson?

Since 2021, Tom Henderson has increasingly gained a reputation as a particularly reliable insider with good sources.

The leaker and journalist, who lives in England, first attracted attention with his revelations about Battlefield 2042, where he correctly named various features and key points long before the game was published.

Since then, Henderson has established himself particularly on Twitter.

He now covers various gaming topics equally and repeatedly makes accurate statements about games such as Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto and about the plans of the console manufacturers Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft.

The insider's earlier report on the PS5 Pro was dismissed by many as unbelievable, but Henderson's hunch has since seemed only to be confirmed.

Not only is the PS5 Pro in the works, according to him, the first models of the technical upgrade should arrive at Sony's in-house developer studios in just a few months.

Third-party developers should receive these "dev kits" before the end of the year.

When will the PS5 Pro be released?

Henderson also made a statement about the release of the PS5 Pro, even if it doesn't seem set in stone.

In the same report, the insider put the release date of the console at the fourth quarter of 2024. However, he stated that this is a preliminary date and is subject to change as long as Sony does not announce the PS5 Pro itself.

PS5 Pro: More models and announcements planned – PS5 “Slim” expected in 2023

More PS5 should come as early as 2023:

Tom Henderson reported on other hardware from the PlayStation family in his report.

He also expects a new model of the standard PS5 this year.

This new PS5 is not supposed to be a "slim" model directly, but practically identical to the PS5.

But the big difference would be a removable (optional) disc drive.

He currently expects September 2023 for the release.

According to various reports, Sony is planning a new showcase presentation for the PS5 in May 2023.

Along with fresh PS5 title announcements, many including Tom Henderson are also anticipating the reveal of the new PS5 model and other PlayStation hardware.
