(ANSA) - FLORENCE, MAY 03 - "I do not feel the contradiction" in "supporting the right to defense of those who are criminally invaded, as happened to the Ukrainian people and that this is not contradictory, from the left, with continuing to ask to leave as soon as possible from this conflict and therefore a stronger diplomatic and political role of the EU".
This was stated by Elly Schlein, secretary of the Democratic Party, underlining that "yesterday there was a significant passage, for the first time with the vote of China and India which recognize the Russian invasion".
Schlein, on the sidelines of an initiative by Filcams-Cgil in Florence, said that "we must continue to mobilize for peace from this point of view, and the Democratic Party will continue to do so", recalling that it has matured "since March last year" its position.
"I too come from a pacifist culture, there was a strong, divisive debate about this", he recalled.
