(ANSA) - MILAN, 05 MAY - Cyberattacks are growing globally: ransomware is always the number one public danger.

The latest report from the IT security company Check Point Research says so.

According to analysts, weekly attacks worldwide increased by 7% in the first three months of 2023 compared to a year ago, with an average of 1,248 attacks per week for each organization.

The education and research sector suffered the most attacks, with an average of 2,507 attacks per week and a 15% increase compared to 2022. The main threat is ransomware, which locks down the systems it infects, demanding a ransom from the victim to ensure that get back your data.

In its Security Report 2023, the security agency says that in the first quarter of 2023, the Government/Military sector was the most targeted by the specific of ransomware attacks, with an average of one in 20 organizations on a weekly basis.

This figure represents a slight decrease of 2% compared to the previous year.

The Finance/Banking sector was the second most affected, with one in 25 companies and a 32% growth compared to 2022. The Education/Research segment was in third place, with one in 26 organizations affected by ransomware, an 8% decrease over twelve months ago.
