(ANSA) - LOS ANGELES, MAY 05 - Drew Barrymore forfeits the MTV Movie & TV Awards.

The actress was to present the 2023 edition, which will be held in Los Angeles on Sunday, May 7.

But just two days before the event, she has decided not to appear as a sign of solidarity with the screenwriters who have been on strike against the Studios since Tuesday.

"I've listened to the writers, and out of true respect for them, I will refrain from hosting the MTV Movie & TV Awards live in support of their strike," Barrymore said in a statement.

"Everything we celebrate and admire in film and television is born of their creativity. Until an agreement is reached, I choose to wait. Thanks to MTV, who have been one of the best partners I have ever worked with and I look forward to being a part of this gala next year, when I can truly pay homage to all that MTV has created."

However, the MTV Movie & TV Awards are confirmed for 8pm on Sunday at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica (5am in Italy).

The producers are looking for a plan B, but certainly the abstention from the work of film and TV writers and authors complicates the preparation a lot.

Also because the union that brings them together, the WGA, is gaining the support of the other Hollywood unions.

Precisely in light of the strike and the climate it has triggered among show business workers, there will be no usual red carpet, with the fashion show and interviews with television before the show.
