(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 05 - After an all-night manhunt, Serbian police have arrested a 21-year-old young man suspected of shootings, more than once, which took place yesterday evening in three villages south of Belgrade, in which eight people died and 14 others were injured, seven of them seriously.
This is the second massacre in a few days, after the one that took place on Wednesday in a Belgrade school by a former student in which eight pupils and a security guard were killed, six other boys and a teacher were injured.
The young suspect, referred to as Uros B. allegedly fired an automatic weapon several times indiscriminately at local people.
More than 600 policemen were involved in the manhunt which lasted throughout the night, supported by some helicopters.
Uros B. was finally blocked and arrested near Kragujevac, an industrial city about 150 km south of Belgrade.
Bratislav Gašić, interior minister, called the attacks "an act of terrorism".
Although many weapons left over from the conflicts of the 1990s still circulate in Serbia, mass shootings have so far been extremely rare.
Since yesterday, however, the authorities have strengthened controls and the police have urged citizens to keep them safe and away from children.
