A 75-year-old motorist died in the early hours of Sunday after crashing at full speed into one of the toll booths of the Campana branch of the Pan-American Highway, in a violent accident that caused shock due to the damage suffered by the vehicle.
Parts of the engine scattered along the pavement, the twisted irons of the car lying against one of the access cabins. This Monday, one of the security cameras of the toll that showed the accident was known.
According to the film record of the concessionaire Autopistas del Sol (Ausol), some lights approach the toll, which had a cone in the middle. He was not enabled for the passage, but it is not glimpsed if he tries to avoid it. There it bites against the bumper that divides the steps and causes a small explosion.
The car, which was coming at full speed, shoots out and embedded itself against booth 7 of the toll, after overturning in the access to the collection area. For that height it was a ball of fire, which left in its wake pieces of the bodywork.
The motive for the accident is still being investigated, although the images give an account of the brutality of the blow.
The accident occurred at kilometer 33.5, at the toll of the Campana Branch that goes to the City of Buenos Aires.
According to the films that went viral from the crash zone, the car was left with the wheels up, bent in half. Around it, engine and body parts. Such was the violence of the impact, that investigators were slow to identify make and model of the vehicle, a gray Volkswagen CC Passat.
The video also records two toll workers making their own way out of one of the booths. From Ausol they indicated that they "did not suffer consequences". Due to the crash, toll booths 6, 7 and 8 remain closed.
Panamericana: a truck knocked down a pedestrian bridge
A pedestrian bridge fell this morning after being rammed by a truck and caused a total traffic cut in the Pilar branch of the Pan-American Highway, at the height of the town of Fatima, in the Buenos Aires district of Pilar.
The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. at kilometer 62,500 of the Pan-American Highway, where the driver of a dump truck of a road company did not realize that he had the elevated raft system and rammed the top of a pedestrian bridge.
As a result of the impact, part of the walkway fell in the rear area of a truck that at that time was circulating behind the truck in the direction of Provincia.
The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries, while the driver of the truck was unharmed, according to police sources.
The highway was completely closed to traffic in both directions since part of the bridge was fallen in one direction and in another was suspended.
At the time of the collapse there was no one passing over the bridge, although witnesses indicated that a lady with a child was going down the stairs. They were saved for barely a minute. The next nearest pedestrian bridge is three blocks away.
Shortly before noon, the operators had already finished lifting the debris that fell on the highway track. The truck and the car have already been removed, while only the raft that hit the bridge was left in place.
