Spotify has removed tens of thousands of songs created through artificial intelligence (AI) from music start-up Boomy. This was reported by the Financial Times, specifying that the music platform would have made this decision due to a suspected "artificial streaming". In other words, online bots would pretend to be 'human listeners' to inflate the listeners of some songs.

According to the City newspaper, the Universal Music Group would have raised the alarm, reporting to all the main streaming platforms suspicious streaming activities on the songs of the Californian start-up. The same major last month called for a crackdown on AI-generated music, asking streaming platforms, such as Spotify and Apple, to prevent access to their music catalog to developers who use it in the training processes of AI technologies. Boomy, launched two years ago, allows users to choose various styles to create songs with AI.

Users can then broadcast the music thus created on streaming platforms, against payment of royalties. According to the start-up, its users have created more than 14 million songs so far.
