NGOs, 'allocate 2% of GDP to the fight against climate and poverty'

On June 22 and 23, the "Summit for a new global financial pact" will be held in Paris, organized by President Emmanuel Macron, and at that time the Italian government will have to commit itself to guaranteeing at least 2% of GDP to combat global warming and related social inequalities.

This is the appeal that was launched today by the NGOs of young activists The One Campaign (against poverty) and Italian Climate Network (against climate change), during a press conference in the Chamber.

"By 2050 it is estimated that Africa will need $50 billion a year to adapt to climate change, but currently it receives only $18.5 billion a year in total," said Stella Pegoraro and Nicola Sangiorgi, young activists at The One Campaign. For Jacopo Bencini of Italian Climate Network "Italy, as a large country in the global North and a member of the European Union, must responsibly promote a renewed international ambition on climate and inequality. The Italian Climate Fund launched at Cop27 in Sharm el-Sheikh (from 4.2 billion euros until 2026, editor's note) will have to be followed in the coming months by clear and concrete commitments in terms of contributions to global finance.
