The prefecture announced on Tuesday the passage from "enhanced alert" to "crisis" level, the highest in case of drought, in this department that extends from the Pyrenees to the Mediterranean coast.

The authorities have also announced controls and sanctions for individuals and companies that deviate from water-saving measures, in this context of historic drought. Decisions that come while the department has already been, moreover, affected by several fires, as in Saint-Cyprien this Wednesday but also in Argelès last Monday and Cerbère, less than a month ago.
