2023-05-12T17:18:16.593Z

Highlights: Nouvelles Vagues will take place between June 28 and July 2 in Biarritz. The festival will be composed of a jury of international and multidisciplinary artists under 35 years of age. The competition will focus on 9 films about youth directed by emerging or established directors, unpublished in France. The "Let's Gau" session will meet moviegoers on the beach for a projection on a giant outdoor screen with, on the program, cult films and karaoke. But also a cine-concert, artistic performances, a secret evening, a photo exhibition, animations for young people.

The new Biarritz film festival dedicated to youth unveiled its enticing program and sunny poster this Thursday, in the presence of Ana Girardot.

The latest addition to French film festivals, Nouvelles Vagues celebrates youth and unveils its solar poster. Initiated by Jérôme Pulis, founding president of the RE7 agency, this special event will take place between June 28 and July 2 in Biarritz. The idea? "Youth is the theme: the age of possibilities, the moments of life that change everything, where the future is written. A place of meeting and transmission, Nouvelles Vagues is a multi-artistic photograph of the younger generation and its representations," explains Sandrine Brauer, general delegate of the festival, producer and co-founder of the 50/50 collective. Nouvelles Vagues will be composed of a jury of international and multidisciplinary artists under 35 years of age and a jury of international film school students. The competition will focus on 9 films about youth directed by emerging or established directors, unpublished in France.

Outdoor cinema and festive evenings

Out of competition, a section will highlight previews, school sessions for schools in the Biarrote agglomeration, a Gazteria section ("youth" in Basque) will ask the question "What can youth do?" to 5 guests of honor and "First time" will welcome a filmmaker and his collaborators to revisit a youth work. The "Let's Gau" session will meet moviegoers on the beach for a projection on a giant outdoor screen with, on the program, cult films and karaoke. But also a cine-concert, artistic performances, a secret evening, a photo exhibition, animations for young people ... Nouvelles Vagues promises five days of cinema, celebration and discovery. To unveil the program of this unprecedented event, the actress Ana Girardot, member of the festival board co-directed with Anna Apter (also graphic designer and creator of the festival poster), the teaser of the event.

Cinephile city

And by the way, why Biarritz? In 1896, the Lumière brothers organized one of their first film screenings in the city. Cradle of cinema since, Biarritz was preselected against Cannes to host the first edition of an international film festival in France... Biarritz did not win the timpani but did not turn its back on the seventh art and has always hosted many film shoots: Hôtel des Amériques by André Téchiné (1981), Mortelle Randonnée by Claude Miller (1983), Fin d'été by the Larrieu brothers (1999)... To set up this ambitious new project, President Jérôme Pulis has surrounded himself with Lili Hinstin (Director of Programming), Guillaume Pépy (Secretary General), François-Xavier Menou (Treasurer), a board composed of Elisha Karmitz, Clarisse Lacarrau, Anne-Florence Schmitt and Rosalie Varda. The Board of Directors includes Audrey Azoulay, Carole Bienaimé Besse, Claire Borotra, Rachida Brakni, Lorenzo Chammah, Grégoire Chertok, Lee-Ann Curren, Patricia Goldman, Elsa Heizmann, Véronique Rampazzo and Elisabeth Tanner. While the festival will unveil its jury and its films in competition on June 6, Nouvelles Vagues already promises to stand out from the crowd.
