    What is the Joy-Con Drift?

The Joy-Con Drift is an issue that affects the detachable controllers of the Nintendo Switch. This phenomenon is characterized by a movement recorded by the analog stick without the player touching it, making the console practically unusable, since the controls do not respond normally and greatly interfere with the pleasure of play. This issue is widespread and affects thousands of Joy-Con since the launch of the Nintendo Switch in 2017.

After years of discussions and even lawsuits from consumer groups, Nintendo has decided to repair or replace defective Joy-Con affected by this issue for free, even if the console's warranty has expired. However, it is common for the problem to reappear after repair, which only pushes back the appearance of the Joy-Con Drift.

Different solutions can be used to try to solve the problem. This can involve recalibrating the joystick of the Joy-con, attempting to dust it or applying pressure to the sides of the joystick. However, if the problem is deeper and affects electronics in particular, the only real solution that exists is to change the entire joystick block. This requires careful disassembly of the Joy-Con and a change of the part with a suitable reference. The ones we offer in our selection are suitable.

How to repair your Nintendo Switch joysticks?

There are about ten steps to follow to change a joystick from Joy-Con, to continue using it with your Nintendo Switch.

First of all, get a suitable repair kit. In particular, you need two different screwdrivers, type Y00 and PH00. You can get a Nintendo kit, which ensures that the screwdrivers are perfectly compatible with the devices.

The next step is to remove the four Y00 screws present on the case of the Joy-Con, which allows the two parts to be disconnected. Next, locate the controller's battery, and unplug it. Then remove the two PH00 screws that hold the motherboard in place, then disconnect the ribbon cable that is attached to the defective joystick.

Next, unscrew the two PH00 screws that hold the joystick, and then remove it. Replace it with the new joystick, screw the two screws back on and reconnect the ribbon cable. Then replace the motherboard and recognize the battery before closing the Joy-Con case. Be sure to screw back on all the elements to obtain the same stability as before disassembly.

Once the hardware step is complete, turn on your Nintendo Switch and pair the Joy-Con you just repaired. Go to the "Console Setting" menu and then to "Controllers and sensors", and choose "Stick Calibration" to make the precise adjustment of the joystick. If the repair went well, this calibration should quickly give you good results. Once you've done this, your Joy-Con is ready to be used in your games.
