Israel: truce with Gaza holds, return to normality

(ANSAmed) - TEL AVIV, 14 MAY - Israel gradually returns to normal after a quiet night following the announcement of a truce with Islamic Jihad in Gaza mediated by Egypt.
The director of the National Security Council Zahi Hanegbi thanked Egypt's President Abdel Fatahal-Sissi and reiterated that in the face of Egypt "Israel is committed to respecting the formula that 'calm we will respond with calm'". Hanegbi ruled out Israel being committed to renouncing "targeted executions" of its enemies in Gaza. "If Israel is attacked or threatened," he added, "it will continue to use all means at its disposal to defend itself."
Gaza also welcomed with relief the end of hostilities. In the hunt, Islamic Jihad organized marches to praise the "victory" achieved in five days of fighting in which it fired over 1200 rockets at Israel. "The resistance has entered this test united - says a statement from the coordination center of all armed factions in Gaza - and has written a page of strength, sacrifice and heroism". "We warn the fearful enemy: - continues the statement - will return to the practice of 'targeted executions' our sword will be unsheathed again". The reference is to the killing of six Islamic Jihad military leaders shot in targeted attacks by the Israeli air force.
According to Gaza's Ministry of Health, 33 Palestinians were killed and 147 injured in this round. There were two deaths in Israel, one of them a Gaza laborer who was working in an Israeli company a short distance from the Strip. (ANSAmed).
