ROME - Women Artists. Percorsi nella Grafica dal Novecento ad Oggi is the title of the exhibition that the Palazzo della Calcografia, historic headquarters of the Central Institute for Graphics directed by Maura Picciau, in Rome, hosts from 16 May to 23 July. The exhibition, curated by Luisa De Marinis and Ilaria Fiumi Sermattei, is dedicated to the graphic, photographic and engraving production of the artists present in the Institute's collection, starting from the first decades of the twentieth century to the present day.
It is an unprecedented and high quality exhibition that brings together 80 works by 40 artists to which are added those of Irma Blank with her aniconic writing, Isabella Ducrot with her textile compositions and Elisa Montessori with poetic inspirations between myth and nature. The three invited artists are not yet present in the collection, but are strongly significant in the contemporary creative scene.
"The women in our collections reveal themselves as sensitive, updated and imaginative authors - explains Maura Picciau, director of the Central Institute - discovering, or rediscovering, the works and the message is a due act and an exploration full of surprises and satisfactions, sometimes touching. The three invited artists, Irma Blank, Isabella Ducrot and Elisa Montessori, constitute a happy triad for analytical ability, poetic harmony and expressive force in the sign. The presence of works by Irma Blank, who recently passed away, moves us and seems to us a fitting tribute". The exhibition is structured around five themes: Myth / visions, Landscapes, Faces / figures, Signs / writings and About Her, in a path in which the chronological and historical criterion is intertwined with the linguistic and thematic one, to witness the adherence of women to the currents and movements of art history in the long period examined. The exhibition is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 am to 19 pm. (ANSA).
