Neither cash, credit card nor internet: Kaufland introduces the new "Kaufland Pay" payment system. Integrated into its own app, it should make payment even easier.
Munich – Forgot cash? Or maybe the whole wallet? At Kaufland, this will soon no longer be a problem. The supermarket chain wants to introduce a new payment method that will work contactless and even without the Internet: Kaufland Pay.
From when? | Autumn 2023 |
What are the benefits? | Cashless, contactless, offline |
How does Kaufland Pay work? | Via the Kaufland app via a QR code |
This is how easy the new payment method Kaufland Pay works
Digitization has also arrived in supermarkets – in addition to new barcodes, more and more digital payment methods are now being used. After an extensive test phase, Kaufland Pay is to be introduced as early as autumn. In cooperation with Bluecode, the new payment system is to be integrated into the Kaufland app. If you register and enter your data, you can conveniently pay for all purchases via the app. Kaufland Pay works easily via QR code at every Kaufland checkout. After scanning, the black QR code turns blue, which means that the payment was successful. The Bluecode system is also said to work at self-checkout checkouts. In addition to digital payment options, some supermarkets now also offer a digital alternative to the shopping cart chip.

New payment method: Kaufland Pay can also be used offline
The special feature of the new payment method is that Kaufland Pay should also work offline temporarily. Customers can also pay via the app if the smartphone is not connected to the Internet for a short time. By integrating it into the Kaufland Card, customers can collect additional bonus points with their purchase.
Many are already using contactless payment methods and paying via smartphone or watch. If you don't already do this, there are a few things you should consider beforehand. With Kaufland Pay, the supermarket chain is now creating a payment system that even works offline. Kaufland is not the first chain to rely on an individualized payment method. Drugstore chains such as Rossmann and Müller, the Globus DIY store or individual companies within the Rewe Group already offer the method.
