Highlights: Even if some four-legged friends look too cute - you should not choose a dog just because of its appearance. Even though the pied coat may look pretty, dogs with merle genes can have health problems. From blindness to deafness, as well as heart defects, everything is possible. In general, you should only buy dogs from reputable breeders and refrain from supposed "bargains". Nevertheless, we would like to introduce you to eight dog breeds that can be affected by a so-called torture breeding.

Even if some four-legged friends look too cute - you should not choose a dog just because of its appearance. Because sometimes this is associated with suffering and pain.

1 / 8Even though the pied coat may look pretty, dogs with merle genes can have health problems. However, only if they carry the merle gene twice (i.e. from both parents). From blindness to deafness, as well as heart defects, everything is possible. Due to the extremely shortened legs and a long back, there is an increase in herniated discs. According to the German Veterinary Association, very high profits can be achieved, especially with dog breeds that are fashionable. For example, the Pug, the French Bulldog or the English Bulldog have been popular for years. The snouts are getting shorter and shorter and the eyes even bigger – a classic childish scheme. What pleases humans is often pure suffering for dogs. Some four-legged friends can hardly breathe or can only sleep with their heads high.

Another fashion dog, for example, is also the Labradoodle: in this hybrid breeding, even the creator confesses that he made a mistake. He told ABC: "I opened Pandora's box and Frankenstein's monster came out."

Other four-legged friends have extreme wrinkles in which inflammation spreads and some breeds enchant people with a special coat pattern that is ultimately based on a genetic defect and can cause deafness or blindness.

Of course, not all of these dogs suffer from health problems – namely when reputable breeders are aware of their responsibility. In general, you should only buy dogs from reputable breeders and refrain from supposed "bargains". Nevertheless, we would like to introduce you to eight dog breeds that can be affected by a so-called torture breeding.
