Extreme heat and hard lockdown are hitting the Grande Nation with full force. President Nathalie Séchard governs France and doesn't really feel like it anymore. The Minister of the Interior, who is willing to use any means to take up her post, is sawing at her chair. With "The Last Days of the Predators", Jérôme Leroy presents an exciting thriller that could not be more topical and political.

Jérôme Leroy "The Last Days of the Beasts of Predators": that's what the book is about
The novel allows the highest position in the country to be turned over. Where Emmanuel Macron governs in reality and is with an older partner, in the book it is President Nathalie Séchard who, like Macron, had the idea of forming a rallying movement to the political camps. She is fed up with a second term and would rather spend time with her husband, who is 26 years younger. So much for the transfers into fiction.
The mood in the country is not the best. Corona and heat are plaguing France. The resentment is growing. But who could lead the country if the president doesn't want more? The most promising candidates are the head of the far-right "Bloc patriotique", Séchard's staunchly right-wing interior minister and the green ecology minister. Attacks on a vaccination center with several deaths are causing fear among the population.

The quick arrest of the suspects plays into the hands of the Minister of the Interior. People seek security while he strives for power. Supported by loyal intelligence officials, right-wing networks and a ruthless police force, he pushes ahead with his plans. As his political opponent, the Greens, gains ground, the 20-year-old daughter of his rival, Clio, finds himself in the crosshairs. She has to go into hiding. This is where the novel tips over and it becomes a fast-paced thriller that chases towards its showdown.

Jérôme Leroy "The Last Days of the Predators": Conclusion
The author works with changes of time and place, which allow a fast-paced film to unfold before the reader's eye. Leroy's characters are so vivid that you forget you have a novel in your hand. The reference "fiction" should have been included here rather than Stuckrad-Barre's "Still awake?". Even though "The Last Days of the Predators" has not yet begun in reality, everything seems so real that it makes the hairs on the back of the neck stand on end. For readers of fast-paced and turbulent thrillers, the book is an absolute recommendation. If you prefer to read Cosy Crime, take a look at the books by Richard Osman.
