Ostlund, 'the Palme d'Or to a cinema that remains in the memory'

(ANSA) - CANNES, MAY 27 - From the top of the 2 Palme d'Or won in rapid succession (the second a year ago with Triangle of Sadness), the president of the jury Ruben Östlund immediately imposes the law of silence when - with a verdict announced - journalists ask him if the maximum prize to Justine Triet was decided unanimously. "You never tell what happened," says Östlund, "maybe you will know in a long time. I can only tell you that for all the awards we discussed a lot among ourselves and that it was a strong and important experience".
To see his face and that of his colleagues, it is legitimate to think that the president's vote weighed heavily and that the Swedish director played the role of the man alone in command, thanks to ready dialectic, thundering voice, prestige and charisma. "On the film that won - he adds - I can say that the vision in the Grand Theatre Lumière together with the public confirmed that this type of cinema, what we also found in other works in competition, is what we were looking for: a cinema capable of thrilling the public, remaining in the memory, speaking a language that everyone understands".
Not a word about Italian films (one of the biggest teams in competition) or even about other forgotten greats like Ken Loach. The delivery of silence for the moment is imposed.
