A clean bathroom is important. Unfortunately, this also includes the toilet, and cleaning it from its debris or the like is rarely a pleasure. Chemical cleaners from the supermarket are used all too quickly. But there are a variety of home remedies that can do the job just as well – and without endangering the environment. While vinegar and even denture cleaners are already quite well known here, there is one helper that very few people think of: shaving cream.

Cleaning the toilet with shaving cream

Shaving cream is usually used for shaving and is intended to prepare the skin for it. But its properties also make it ideal for cleaning the toilet and many other areas in the home. The soap foam adheres to the surfaces and helps to remove dirt, debris and unpleasant odors. And on top of that, shaving cream often costs less than one euro.

And this is how it works with the cleaning:

  • Preparation: Before you begin, make sure you have a can of shaving cream that can be used for cleaning. Choose a foam (not a gel) that is not too scented. You will also need a toilet brush and, if necessary, gloves to protect your hands.
  • How to use: Spray the shaving cream generously on the inside of the toilet bowl. Concentrate especially on the areas under the rim, where the most stubborn deposits often form. The soapy foam adheres to the surfaces and immediately begins its cleaning effect.
  • Exposure time: Leave the shaving cream on for about 10-15 minutes. During this time, it dissolves dirt, bacteria and limescale deposits and facilitates their removal. Meanwhile, you can do other tasks in the bathroom to use the time effectively. By the way: Shaving cream also ensures that the bathroom mirror no longer fogs up.
  • Cleaning: After the exposure time, take the toilet brush and scrub the inside of the bowl thoroughly. Be sure to clean the edge and bottom area thoroughly as well. Then rinsing is carried out and the foam disappears along with the loosened dirt. If necessary, rinse again until all the foam is gone.
  • Post-processing: Use a soft cloth or toilet paper to dry the surfaces of the toilet thoroughly. This helps to remove any possible streaks or residues and thus achieve a clean result. Then dispose of the used cloth or toilet paper properly.
