Alice Osman, creator of "Breathtaking," was recently interviewed about the comic book series and the Netflix series on which she is based (which she also wrote), and announced that the highly anticipated second season will splurge in darker directions.

At the center of the British LGBT teen series, whose first season premiered in April 2022 on Netflix, is the love story and discovery of sexuality of Charlie and Nick (played by Joe Locke and high-profile star Kit Connor), two teenage boys who experience the twists and turns of adolescence, which include difficulties at school, adopting their sexual identity, acceptance, inclusion and first loves.

Osman, who took part in The Hay Festival this past weekend (a festival of literature and art that takes place in Wales for ten days between May and June), shared with audiences the darker shades that will color the plot of the second season of the hit Netflix series, adding that Isaac's character (played by actor Toby Donovan) will also develop and get more screen time.

"I'm very excited to have asexuality and aromanticism represented in Isaac's character," shared Osman, 28, who identifies herself. Isaac is a member of the circle of friends of the main character Charlie (played by Joe Locke) and is a character created especially for the series and not part of the original book series.

Osman's participation in the festival reportedly generated a lot of interest, and long lines of fans lined up at the entrance to her performance on the festival stage, hoping to get the signature of the person behind one of the most talked-about series in recent times.

"I still can't quite digest the journey and how 'breathtaking' it exploded," Ozman told the excited crowd. "It's surreal, especially the scenes in the series that are an exact replica of what was in the books. To see my imagination come to life is crazy," she said. "I was totally committed to writing and thought it would amount to a year-long project. We're seven years into this, with two new books on the way and a second season in August," excitedly concluded the show's producer on Rotten Tomatoes.

"I care so much about 'breathtaking.' It was my flagship project when I started and it still is. It's so important to me that they don't take it away from me and turn it into something I hate, that it's always a danger that exists when you adapt books. I am fortunate to have been given the privilege of being so in control; The writing, the presence on set, and the involvement in all aspects."

The new season, which premieres Aug. 3, will continue to chronicle the romantic relationship between Charlie and Nick (played by actor Kit Connor) as they face tests, a trip to Paris and a prom, as the characters Al (played by actress Yasmin Finney) and Tao (played by actor William Gao) test whether they can be more than friends.

"The goal of season two was to continue the magic of season one, but still give the feeling that the characters have matured and are now dealing with issues that are a little darker," Osman shared in the writing process behind the new season. "I like to think of it as an upgrade of the first season," she concluded.
