Currently, a number of products and supermarkets are affected by recalls. The reason is currently almost always the same: contaminated spinach.

Dortmund – Spinach is considered healthy and is apparently a real all-rounder in products – because, as a recent recall makes clear, the vegetable is contained in many processed foods. All supermarkets and discounters have been affected since June 6, RUHR24 reports.

Recall due to spinach: Several products are contaminated

According to several manufacturer announcements and the portal lebensmittelwarnung.de, "metal parts of up to two millimeters in size" should be able to be found in the supermarket articles. Both organic products and items that are not explicitly advertised with this label are affected. It is currently unclear whether further recalls could follow.

The wave of recalls began with a veggie schnitzel from the "So Fine" brand. Consumers can recognize the affected packages with a content of 200 grams by the following key data:

  • Best before date: 29.05.2023 up to and including 10.07.2023
    Lot marking: EAN 8718885891164

The brand is available in various supermarkets throughout Germany. Research by RUHR24 has shown that "So Fine" is available at Edeka, Rewe, Kaufland and Netto, depending on the offer.

All supermarkets affected by recall: spinach contaminated with splinters

A very similar product is affected at the organic retailer "dennree". Under its own brand of the same name, the organic supermarket sells several products, including vegetarian patties. Here, too, according to the manufacturer, it cannot be ruled out that there are metal splinters in the products.

The package contains 160 grams of the vegetable patties in the "spinach" variety. Consumers can identify the affected batches by their best-before date (BBD). These are 03.04.2023 to 26.06.2023.

But what is the danger posed by the supposed metal particles in spinach? In principle, swallowing the sharp-edged particles can cause serious injuries to the mouth and throat. In the worst case, swallowing leads to internal injuries or bleeding.
