The ship Eladia Isabel, an emblem of passenger trips to Uruguay, is stranded in "painful condition" in Puerto Madero and customs authorities ordered the company to take it out of the country before July 9.
The situation was denounced by the General Directorate of Customs, after an operation carried out in the shipping firm Cipreses S.A., for irregularities noticed in its fleet.
"Specialized agents of the agency were present at the river terminal of the company that owns Buquebus to inspect their vessels and resolved the interdiction of the Eladia Isabel, whose seaworthiness certificates were expired," Customs said this morning in a statement.

According to sources of the agency, the Uruguayan-flagged ship was moored in the 5th North Basin, in Puerto Madero, "in a painful state." "During the inspection, the furniture was found extremely deteriorated," they detailed.
The company, which for decades has made trips to Colonia, Montevideo and Punta del Este, had requested permission to move 150 seats from the boat to another.

However, as reported by Customs, "given its documentary irregularities, the Eladia Isabel was disaffected from the special regime of means of transport and, in that framework, the Customs resolved its interdiction without the right to use or transfer, under the terms of article 1.085 of the Customs Code. "
Likewise, the agency led by Guillermo Michel ordered the company to re-export the ship before July 9.

The Eladia Isabel made for more than a decade the "slow" trip between the coasts of Argentina and Uruguay, which took more than three hours and could carry about 1,200 passengers.
As reported on the company's website, it has capacity for 760 people in economy class, 293 in first and 102 in the special category. However, years ago it ceased to be operational.

Far from the state in which the boat is today in Buenos Aires, the site of Buquebús defines it as "a true cruise" and ensures that it is "the ship that knows the waters of the Río de la Plata the most".
