"Almost cried when I was out": Lidl customer can't believe the amount for "small purchase"

2023-06-21T13:45:53.834Z

Highlights: A Lidl customer says she pays 82 euros for "small purchases" at the supermarket. "I almost cried when I was out," she says. "That's really insane" and "that's really, really violent," they say. A woman affected by poverty recently complained about the price of three simple products at Rewe. The (now deleted) tweet of a woman who, according to her own statements, is a single mother of two children from the Palatinate, goes in a similar direction.

After her purchase, a Lidl customer is downright shocked by the amount she was supposed to pay at the discounter. She almost cried.

Ludwigshafen – The rising prices in the supermarket are causing problems for many people. Some simply accept them without complaint and shop as usual. Others quietly limit themselves and tend to use private labels or cross off one or the other product from their shopping list.

If, on the other hand, you have to turn over every cent twice, you have an even harder time with inflation – and in some cases also dare to go public: A woman affected by poverty recently complained about the price of three simple products at Rewe. The (now deleted) tweet of a woman who, according to her own statements, is a single mother of two children from the Palatinate, goes in a similar direction. She has already tweeted several times under the hashtag #ichbinarmutsbetroffen and has now also spoken out after a visit to the supermarket.

Lidl customer says she pays 82 euros for "small purchases"

The user posted a photo of her almost complete purchase. For this, as the private labels show, she was at the discounter Lidl. Only three six-packs of drinks are missing from the picture. Of course, there is nothing confirmed in their data, but there is no reason to invent anything either. Your invoice amount at the supermarket checkout is 82 euros!

"I almost cried when I was out," she says. "I thought the cashier had made a mistake. And I don't even have meat or vegetables. It was just a 'small' purchase. Soon only pasta with sauce."

Lidl customer gets a lot of sympathy

The Lidl customer gets a lot of sympathy in the comments. "That's really insane" and "That's really, really violent," they say. Another user writes: "I often have the topic with my friends, it's so frustrating. If you have a Lidl nearby, they have rescue bags of vegetables. Is happiness to get one, but maybe an idea? Or Togoodtogo, the app where you can save food cheaply." The mother reacts: "Goodtogo only offers one shop here, and it's usually out of stock. I went to Lidl today, and honestly, I think they're the most expensive at the moment. It almost makes no difference whether I go to Lidl or Edeka."

Lidl customer even bought drinks partly on offer

Another jokes: "That's what happens when you buy 3*6 bottles of champagne right away." Then he gets serious: "No, it's brutal at the moment, I'm only shopping for myself, it's possible, but you still notice it." The Lidl customer also clarifies what the drinks were: "Apparently pure gold. So there were even two sixers on offer. 75ct/bottle, and the other was peach iced tea." With 18 bottles, it still makes a deposit of 4.50 euros, but that won't change the overall impression of the Lidl customer.

Another user's tip: "I would leave out the branded products. Nutella, Giotto, miller's milk ... I think they're going to hit it pretty hard." She thinks that there are many things that are also available as no-name variants that taste just as good. Cashiers have recently explained how to make their working lives easier. (lin)
