Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton are reluctant to move into the estate of King Charles' brother Andrew, fearing it would humiliate him.

Sources close to the royal family say King Charles wants to remove his brother from his old Royal Lodge home to make room for the Prince and Princess of Wales and that he does not want to continue to pay for the costs of maintaining the place. A source close to William and Kate told Page Six that the couple are "very happy at Adelaide Cottage with their three children and have no intention of moving there at this time".

William and Kate left Kensington Palace last September and moved into the cottage in Windsor. Various rumors have surfaced around the move that the king is interested in moving them to Andrew's royal palace, which is estimated to be worth $38 million. The mansion boasts 30 rooms and is much larger than the prince and princess's four-bedroom cottage.

Charles' brother, Andrew, 63, lost his status as a member of the royal family after paying a multimillion-dollar settlement to Virginia Giuffre in March 2022 after she sued him for sexual assault.

The Windsor estate is due to undergo roof maintenance soon and Andrew seems reluctant to leave even during the renovation, fearing that if he leaves he will have nowhere to return to. Andrew has a 75-year lease for the estate he shares with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson. Insiders say that's why Andrew pays the costs of repairing the roof himself.

A source close to the royal family told Page Six: "Charles isn't dumping Andrew, but Andrew will have to find the money to take care of the property himself – where does it come from?"

The Daily Mail noted last week that it would only make sense for Andrew to temporarily move to nearby Frogmore Cottage, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's former home, where he could live permanently, at the King's wishes.
