(ANSA) - TUNIS, JULY 04 - "Tunisia is a country that accepts on its territory only those who respect its laws.
It does not tolerate being used as a transit zone or settlement territory for people from several African countries, nor does it accept being the guardian of borders other than its own." This was stated by Tunisian President Kais Saied, on the occasion of a meeting with Interior Minister KamelFeki and several security officials, at the ministry's headquarters, in relation to clashes between groups of African irregular migrants and local residents in Sfax, which ended with the stabbing of a Tunisian and defined as a "criminal operation" in a statement from the presidency.
Saied added, as can be seen from a video published by the presidency itself, "that there are criminal networks operating on Tunisian territory, and it is necessary to dismantle them".
"There is a lot of evidence that this is anomalous. How can these migrants travel thousands of miles and head to a specific city or neighbourhood? Do they know these cities or neighborhoods when they are in their country? Are they migrants or people displaced by criminal groups who exploit their misery and traffic their members, thus aiming at social peace in Tunisia?", reads the statement of the Presidency of the Republic. In the same context, the Tunisian President called for the need to enforce the law on those who exploit these people in Tunisia, stressing that the rental of housing for foreigners requires the declaration of the security authorities and the occupation must be subordinate to Tunisian law.
Saied concluded the meeting by stressing "that there is no place in the institutions of the state for those who seek to dismantle it and undermine its national security." "There can be no tolerance for those who create problems and act behind them, because hardly a day goes by without a crisis." "The persistent corruption lobbies have no place in state institutions, nor those who serve them, and create conditions conducive to their maintenance and corruption."
