(ANSA) - VIENNA, JULY 05 - The IAEA has asked for wider access to the Zaporizhzhia plant "to confirm the absence of mines or explosives". The international agency's appeal was launched as alarm grows around the plant, amid mutual accusations from Kiev and Moscow about an imminent attack.
The International Atomic Energy Agency today demanded access to all buildings at Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, occupied by Russian troops, to "confirm the absence of mines or explosives at the site."
"As tension and military activity in the region increases, our experts must be able to verify the facts on the ground," Director-General Rafael Grossi said in a statement, deeming it "crucial to clarify the current situation", at a time when the parties accuse each other of planning "provocations" or "attacks".
