Highlights: Turbines in the Golan Heights will not be built until early August. The Druze community has protested against the construction of the turbines. The union says the turbines damage the landscape, which is necessary for public health. The work has been postponed until the end of the month to reach an agreement with the Druze. The protest was sparked by the planned construction of wind turbines in the area of Kibbutz Elrom, near the town of Yavnei Tzemah.

After the work was postponed to early August following the Druze community's protest, now there is opposition from another direction • The union claimed: "The turbines damage the landscape, which is necessary for public health"

The Public Medical Association on Monday expressed its opposition to the construction of wind turbines in the Golan, after the protest by members of the Druze community that developed over the issue.

The union explained its opposition: "The health reason for opposing wind turbines is twofold – first, wind turbines can harm physical and mental health due to noise and flicker light and shade.

"Second, in a densely populated country such as Israel, turbines up to 200 meters high are very
prominent in space, damage populated areas and dramatically change the natural, agricultural and rural landscape. This landscape has a significant contribution to the health of the general public."

A week ago, the Prime Minister's Military Secretary announced that work on the Golan Heights to build new turbines would be postponed until the beginning of August, which led to widespread protest by the Druze community in light of the expected damage to their land in the area.

The postponement to August was made in order to reach agreements by then with the Druze community and prevent the renewal of the riots.

The land, which was leased by Druze landowners to the turbine construction company, received the appropriate permits, but dozens protested in the area of Kibbutz Elrom, throwing stones and shooting fireworks at policemen.
