Highlights: A couple and their two daughters recently purchased a standard contractor apartment in Kiryat Ono, which covers 165 square meters. The father is self-employed and the mother is in permanent service, choosing to purchase the property and renovate it to suit their needs. The number of rooms remained the same: three bedrooms, a home office, two bathrooms, a guest toilet and a public space. The kitchen changed its location and was expanded, next to it was planned a separate pantry, a work area that was integrated alongside the public space but separately from it.

Choosing a color palette that is pleasing to the eye, playing with shapes that created a home space that is difficult to part with, and fundamental changes were a significant part of the transformation that a penthouse apartment of two parents and their daughters underwent

A couple of parents and their two daughters recently purchased a standard contractor apartment in Kiryat Ono, which covers 165 square meters. The father is self-employed and the mother is in permanent service, choosing to purchase the property and renovate it to suit their needs. This is a penthouse apartment facing an open view, whose initial condition offered few storage solutions and a small kitchen.

Interior designer Maya Shinberger was in charge of the project. The number of rooms remained the same: three bedrooms, a home office, two bathrooms, a guest toilet and a public space. Each room has been redesigned to make the most of the space. The kitchen changed its location and was expanded, and next to it was planned a separate pantry, a work area that was integrated alongside the public space but separately from it, a laundry corner that moved to the girls' bathroom, and the entire house incorporated many storage solutions in order to maintain a neat look and maximum comfort. The sanitary ware, flooring and cladding in the project are from HeziBank.

Materials & Shades

The entire apartment is based on a monochromatic palette combined with pastel colors, with an emphasis on the colors of mobility. In some bathrooms, special emphasis is placed on the shade of black. The diverse use of tiles for wall cladding created an interesting story that combined colors, tile laying methods and dimensions. The use of textiles and metal adds another layer and creates a richness of design, but one that does not take over.

Foyer

The front door opens onto the public space. To the left of the entrance is a carpentry cube covered in black veneer, inside which the electrical cabinet is stored, and it also includes a coat cabinet and air conditioning vents. The entire floor is covered with smoked oak parquet with fishbone laying and the dark veneer texture covers the wall, floor to ceiling, creating an elegant and impressive look. The other side of the carpentry cube contains the kitchen's tall cabinets, creating continuity throughout the public space. In addition, the unit includes the pantry cabinet, refrigerator, stove and microwave, leading to additional space that serves as additional storage solutions for the pantry.

Dining area

The couple hosts a lot of Friday dinners, so they decided to give the dining area a central location at the entrance to the apartment. For the dining area, a round table with a blackened wooden base and a rotating round marble plate was chosen. Around it are black wooden chairs upholstered in gray fabric, and above it hangs a minimalist light fixture, also in black, that stands out against the background of the other technical lighting fixtures in the space.

Living room

The living room space is minimalist and consists of two sofas and a leather armchair. The look is complemented by a spacious carpet and an array of light-colored curtains, which allow light to penetrate and wash over the space in soft light. The brown leather armchair brings in a measured touch of color that warms the space and fine-tunes the look.

Kitchen

The original kitchen was located where the home office is today, and it was very small. Because cooking and hospitality are a significant part of the family's daily life, Shinberger chose to change its location and make it the center of the home, in the full sense of the word. It was designed in black and white tones and in its center was a large island with a natural marble surface, around which bar stools were placed that allow family members to sit together and also host alongside it. In contrast to the standard plan, which usually includes serial seating along the island, here the seating was planned around three sides, in a way that simulates a dining table and allows for dialogue and an intimate atmosphere.

The kitchen island, which is also a dining counter, faces the well-kept outdoor areas and creates a sense of space.

Home Office

A glass partition was designed next to the dining area separating the public space from the home office, but one that does not allow the father of the family, who works from home, to maintain eye contact with family members while working.

Guest Services

The guest toilet was also decorated in black, for which a combination of black tiles and mosaics was chosen. The parquet that covers the floor of the living space goes inside and balances the dark colors. A square concrete sink topped with a copper tap was placed above a carpentry unit and frames used to store and conceal the plumbing system. The wooden surface is covered in a coral shade and creates a kind of shelf for placing soaps, and also includes a towel rack.

Master Suite

In the double unit, a wall cabinet with graphite gray facades stands out, in the center of which is a niche with a make-up corner painted pink. For the double bathroom, Shinberger was asked to create the atmosphere and look of a spa. Depending on the request, she chose dark and deep shades – the walls were covered with black mosaic, the shower had a black basin and a built-in niche for bottles and body washes, and faucets with a brushed stainless steel finish were chosen for the task. The impressive sink cabinet is covered in black veneer and contains two sinks side by side, topped by two CNC-cut mirrors with built-in lighting.

Family Corner

The corner, located next to the bathrooms and bedrooms, is an intermediate area and a meeting place between the public space and the private rooms. A blue sofa bed was set up and a wide wall library with closed storage and open shelves for books and decoration was designed. A TV was placed on the opposite wall of the sofa, and a gray carpet was spread out on the floor, pleasant to the touch.

Childhood rooms

The couple's daughters' rooms were decorated in pleasant and warm shades of pink, and for them, too, custom wall cabinets with space for books and games were designed. The girls share a bathroom for which pink tiles for the walls and gray tiles for the floor were chosen. The countertop is the same as the kitchen countertop. It sits above a veneer-clad carpentry unit, topped by a floating mirror combined with interior lighting and graphite-colored faucets.

From the designer

"The family gathering around home needs, functionality, dreams and budget fit excites me every time. At this stage, everything is possible, and I listen to every desire of the members of the household, and especially listen to what is not said – and thus I can offer solutions and alternatives precisely and in connection with the family dream, while maintaining professionalism, the complete picture and the right budget for the family."
