"The problem of violence and hooligans is not only Greek, but of the whole continent. I call on everyone at European level to help eliminate this cancer." UEFA President Aleksandar Ceferin told a press conference in Athens together with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis about the fatal stabbing of an AEK Athens fan before a Champions League match between the Greek team and Dynamo Zagreb, which has been postponed.
"We will do everything in our power to ensure that such a tragedy never happens again," Ceferin said, while the premier promised that "the culprits will be found and punished for this murder," urging a "European mechanism to address violence in stadiums and punish it effectively." Mitsotakis also stressed that he had agreed with the presidents of the four main Greek clubs that "police will operate in the stadiums to control entrances".
For the accidents and murder, more than a hundred people were imprisoned on Sunday, almost all Croats suspected of being linked to the Bad Blue Boys, an ultra group of Dinamo.
